"The class that Penny and those pictured were in was the class of 1965, NOT 1955!!" True, it was the second grade class of 1955, graduating class of 1965. thank's for clearing that up.

Janis filled in a lot of gaps: At first we thought the teacher was Bobbie Whitley - one of the Wasden girls from Jay that were nieces of Juanita (Campbell Salter) Salter. But - Janis (Campbell) Engert tells us that Bobbie and Mrs. Fuqua swapped schools (Fidelis) the following year so each could be closer to home.) But now some of the actual students say the teacher is a Mrs. Vicks.
Here is the latest input! Janis Harris Simmons (Bobby).. Back row left to right Martha McBride, Raymond Smith, Bonnie Kimbrough, Phil Harris, Eddie Savent, Ms. Vicks, David Campbell, Harry Harris, Buck Roberts, Penny Richarme, Bobby Waymaire, Seaborn Retherford, bottom row left to right, Rita Castleberry, Janice Cotton, Dorothy Diamond, Betty Spicer, Helen Hopkins, Helen Wise, Ann Howell, Helen Castleberry, Bobby Simmons, Travis Barlow and William Carnley.
Some discussion still going on about the little blonde girl with the wisp of hair in front. Some think she is a "Patsy Cook" (not enfinger, not patty) but it is a mystery at this poiint. Bobby Simmons (above) thinks she is Helen Wise. But on this date it seems nearly all are clearly identified.

Hi everyone, I have a program on my computer that can repair photo's that have been damaged. I tried to repair this photo and even though it's not 100% there is a noticeable difference. This is a contribution and I wanted to share this with all of you in the photo. Best wishes, MPL38

I think I see far right, Seaborn Rutherford and Rita Castleberry bottom left. I think it is Bonnie Kimbrough 3rd top from left but she was I thought a year younger? Maybe that one is Penny Richarme? Need a cheat sheet.I think the boy at Mrs. Fuqua's right is a Johnny Faulk who used to live on Howell lane? I think Jim is right about Bonnie Kimbrough (below). I think MAYBE the girl holding the poster is Joyce Hatfield. Janis Engert - niece of Bobbie Whitley informed me that is NOT who the teacher is. It is a Mrs. Fuqua who swapped schools (Fidelis) the next year '56 when I joined the 2nd grade at Chumuckla. Besides Bobbie - another Wasden sister taught at Chumuckla later still - Mary Alice. From Janis: James Manning Wasden, was my grandfather. His daughters: my mom, Drusilla, Emma Ruth (Cannon), Bobbie (Whitley) and Mary Alice (McHenry)His sons: Randolph, and Mack. Juanita (Campbell Salter) was their aunt - sister also to Dewey Wasden who some of us picked cotton for.

From Jim Campbell - Ok, who can name these members of Penny's 2nd Grade Class at CHS?? I can pretty easily pick out Bonnie Kimbrough (third from the left, top row, standing) and Seaborn Rutherford (far right, standing), maybe David Campbell (next to Smokey the Bear), Harry just below David, and maybe Buck Roberts just below Harry, and maybe Bobby Simmons just below, with maybe Travis Barlow next to him (all of those sort of falling from left to right and down from David on the top row, and I'm also not at all sure that's Buck where I indicated). I just can't nail down any of the others, even which one is Penny Richarme. I hope someone in the picture can confirm what I think above, and name the rest.. Reply to the first post here with YOUR information.

March 7th is the opening day for baseball this year. The Chumuckla Athletic Association Board is excited. This year we have more kids participating than ever. We have 1 Pre-T team (you have GOT to see these little munchkins play!), 2 T-ball teams (also a must-see!) and for the 1st time ever we have 2 Machine Pitch teams. We have 1 Girls Softball, also a BIG Minor League team this year and a Major League team.
If you find that you've got nothing to do one night, head up to the ballfields and chances are good there'll be a game going on. With so many teams, they are sharing fields for practice and games. Our playing areas have expanded also. In the Tri-County League we will be playing in Jay, Fidelis, Century, Flomaton, Northwest Escambia and Molino. (all the small towns are sticking together!) WERE GROWING!! Now we just need more space for fields.
MOST EXCITING!!! Several of us were looking in the old yearbooks at the Community Center and we found a picture of the new uniform we want the kids to wear. It was one of the books from the 70s (I'll find out and post later. Maybe you know someone in the pic) This year the board was commited to giving the kids nice uniforms and I think everyone will be as pleased and excited as we are. It's kind of a retro-70s look but we wanted to get away from the T-shirts. I believe they will white (argh! the men on the board just don't understand the women's look of horror!) and possibly the "vest-style".
More updates later. Please come out and support the kids in the community. Thanks, Tina

Just guessing.. not enough activity on the site yet to get some discussion going. OR maybe people have to be "invited" by a general email to all members or they will miss this. One website that has a lot of action regarding questins and answers is Yahoo Answers. You can find a lot of action there for questions and answers and you can answer a lot of questions for people yourself. Best answers are rated by the person that asks... enjoy !!!

"It's Garden Time" -I feel that gardening would be something to "blog" about..don't you? Getting someone's idea on planting and when to plant would be a good way to communicate "On a Place Called Chumuckla". If anyone would think it's fun to start a blog on planting a garden, let me know. Also, good recipes would also be great whether it's dessert dishes, vegetable or main course. Just let me know if your interested. I grew up in Chumuckla in the 50's and enjoyed a lot of tasty food grown in my parents garden. Thanks for reading this thread. MPL38 Lena-nickname

Lena, this is a GREAT IDEA! Why not start a section called "GARDENING in Paradise" or something. Then add pages under that which would be topical and encourage forum discussion like this around every topic.. The whole chumuckla wiki "team" should pick up on it - it is a great topic .. and timely - SPRING!

Thanks for this picture ! I was gone in 1972 - halfway around the world with the Navy. Many times I have thought back and wondered why did I not record these scenes when I had a little box camera .. back in the 50's ad 60's? Not long after this picture - the gin was gone.

The Photo shown on this page is a reminder of my younger years. My parents lived on the left side of the road that is shown in this photo. We lived right across the road from the old Commissary. The house was surrounded by pecan trees and the pecans were easy to shell. I believe they were the Paper Shell variety. Good memories-good life Thanks to this website for bringing me home again. I set up a FLICKR account for our Chumuckla "staff" to upload photos anytime. The flickr accout has some advantages over wetpaint but it is a different site. It is linked from the wetpaint site for anyone to view photos and comment on them. the username is chumucklanews. the password is what we call the place where the tom thumb is. Just go to flickr.com and use these id's to sign in. Then look at te photo stream -- and add pictures aas you wish. You can also start your own flickr or picasa account and just link to THAT from your pages or any other page in the site.

Grace Walther (Norman) has been fighting cancer since the beginning of the year. She has taken a turn for the worse and was moved to the Hospice wing at West Florida Hospital on Christmas Eve. Please pray for her husband of 60 years and her children. This was the first Christmas without Martha and it has taken a toll on the whole family.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers!
