| The first Chumuckla School was near Bell Creek on Chumuckla Springs Road. On a rise to the right of the road near the creek you'll see the old "Spicer Home" . THAT is the old school !! Dessie Howell Campbell (1890-1981), told of getting her teacher's certificate from the Florida State School for Women (Florida State) and then teaching for a year or so at a school that existed somewhere in a large area behind what is the Willard Davis home off Allentown Highway. It may have been somewhere closer to the branch that becomes Pond Creek. Or it may have been closer to the 40 acre Pond. The name of that school is not known by this writer. Anybody got any clues? | |
